The CFE: protecting expatriates' social cover

Understanding the role of the Caisse des Français de l'Étranger and its relevance to your company.

The Caisse des Français de l'Étranger (CFE) allows expatriate employees, under certain conditions, to continue benefiting from social protection inspired by the French system. Membership can cover healthcare costs, maternity, disability, and occupational accidents and diseases.

Why join the CFE?

An expatriate employee generally falls under the social protection system of the country where they work. That system may, however, be incomplete or offer a different level of cover than in France. The CFE is a particularly suitable solution for companies wishing to maintain a high level of protection for their international employees.

When is membership relevant?

Its relevance depends on the destination, the employee's status, existing cover already in place, and the needs of both the company and the employee. Membership is optional in many cases and should be assessed as part of the company's overall international social protection policy. The CFE doesn't systematically replace local obligations, but can be a valuable complement.

Our support

We help you assess eligibility, complete membership formalities and manage the administrative follow-up of the CFE, in coordination with other social protection arrangements set up for your employees (international health insurance, provident schemes, repatriation assistance).
